ONE EYE OPEN  ©  2005, Flyby Phil

       C         Em     F                 C

1.  Up all night;  ain’t got no sleep

   C walkdown                            F G

You’re on the racetrack once again

  C                      G               Am

That old green flag’s an appointment to keep

D7                                         G

You’ve got to do what you can.

   F                                        C      Em              Am

I know you’re the kind of person not to take advice,

        F                       C   Em                        Am

But I’ve been that way more than once or twice,

 F

And I drive with one eye open

After an energy drink on ice,

                                                        C

I drive with one eye open—that’s nice.

2.     The winds of life can blow some things your way.

It ain’t easy to recover.

When sleep won’t come, and night turns into day,

And you wonder how you’ll face your lover.

But one thing on the racetrack is bound to give success,

Help you be a winner and rise above the rest:

You can drive with one eye open

An energy drink is best,

If you drive with one eye open you’ll be blest.

REPEAT 1

Drive with one eye open,

s my advice.

RACE CAR COWBOY   ©  2005, Flyby Phil

        G                                                  F                C

1.  Come, gather round me people, a story I will tell

             F                         C                                                         G

Bout a race car drivin’ cowboy, the local race fans knew him well.

                                                                F        C

He drives around the raceway like he’s in a rodeo,

                  F                                                                C

Like he’s holdin’ on for dear life, astride a Brahma bull.

          G            F             C                G

CHO 1)  He’s drivin’ that car like he stole it,

F                           C                  G

Aggressive like heck and he knows it.

            F                     C            G

He’s a winner right out of the gate,

                                G

Victory lane is his fate.

2.     He’s best friends with a cowgirl, who also drives a car.

But her driving style is different, she’s protective of her car.

She’s got a nose for trouble, and she stays out of the way;

She’ll be in 1st or 2nd by the closing of the day.

CHO 2)  Finessing her way to the finish

     Her passion will never diminish

For moving it up the line

     In cowgirl time.

ANTIOCH ROCK   ©  2005, Flyby Phil

1.  Come on and do the Antioch rock

Racin’ with the kids on the block

Most of the engines are stock

Come on and do the Antioch rock

Burnin’ through the dirt, put on your tee shirt,

And let’s do the Antioch rock.

2.     You oughta get away from it all

Get yourself in a car that won’t stall

Get that baby out on the track

If it’s red, white, or blue, if it’s black

Roll that thunder all night long

Antioch rock with this song.

BRIDGE:  One, two, three, look at me

Four, five, six, gotta stick shift

Seven, eight nine, feelin’ so fine,

Drivin’ my race car up the line

Put on your shoes, don’t forget your socks,

And Let’s do the Antioch rock.

Anti, anti, anti, anti, Antioch rock.

Anti, anti, anti, anti, Antioch rock.

Antioch rock, baby, all night long,

Antioch rock, it’s the sweetest song,

Put on your shoes, it’ll blow of your socks,

Doin’ the Antioch rock.

I can kiss your skin with a passion to win  your hand.

Am                                   F              Em                   Am

I can tame my need for speed, and kindness is my creed:

            F                                       C

I got a one track mind for you babe;

             F                              C

I got a one track mind for you.

2. When I come to park somewhere in the heart of you babe.

I’ll be in victory lane, I’ll know your name for true, babe.

And then we will be one.  The journey’s just begun.

I got a one track mind for you babe.

I got a one track mind for you.

3.     Your so smooth, you put me in the groove  so naturally.

When I see your face, the competition fades behind me.

I feel like I’m out in the lead—there’s nothin’ else I need.

I’ve got a one track mind for you babe,

A one track mind for you.

UNDER THE STANDS  © 2005,  Flyby Phil

        G

1.  Well, those dried out fans, under the stands,

D7

The ones the racetrack forgot,

They fell through the cracks, and broke their backs,

          G

And wallow around in the rot.

                                             G7

After a few weeks time of rollin’ in the slime,

          C                                    A7

it’s a wonder that they aren’t missed.

   G                                                 D7                G

Then I dropped my sunglasses when my gal I kissed.

2.  Well, security was so kind to me—they opened the gate below.

I went under the stands to find my Ray Bans

Though it was darker than I ever knowed

Then to my surprise,  I opened my eyes, and there in the doom and gloom

Was my Uncle Charlie lookin’ like a mummy in a tomb.

3.  He said, ‘Saturday night we get it right, cause things fall through the cracks.

It might be a burger, it might be fries, or even them pink popcorn snacks.

But it sure is dirty, and we really get thirsty, crawlin’ under the cokes,

In hopes that someone might spill them down our throats.

4.  Now I asked old Charlie if he wanted to leave, and I told him he should.

I said a repaired back and some time in the sack might do him a world of good.

But then he reared back his head, lookin’ way past dead, he said ‘Why don’t you see?

There ain’t nothin’ like gettin’ in the races free!’

REPEAT 1 up to last line

But I understand now and leave them in their bliss.

                                                       B       E

That way, your hopes to win will never die.

2.     Don’t get messed up in a dirty situation

Don’t get messed up, though you’d like to try

To pass that driver with his low down intention

Just let the trouble happen, and fly on by.

GUITAR BREAK

3.     When you feel that hit, and you’re down on the bottom,

And you wobble a bit, and he goes on by.

He’ll soon be tanglin’ with a passel of drivers.

Just let the trouble happen, and fly on by.

Our lady of the track.

There’s no driving skill she lacks.

Here she comes to save the day.

All you mean old drivers go away,

F

And if you don’t drive clean,

                        C               A7

You’d better leave the scene,

‘Cause Mighty Mouse is on her way.

     A                            B

The track is perfect, you’re hopin’ to win.

      E                                     F#

You’ve mapped a plan to move up the line.

CHO)  You gotta wait for the magic flag, wait for the magic flag to fly,

E                      A     B                    E   A   B

2.  The flag man is standin’ so proud and so tall,

Green and white flags are ready, you know it’s his call

For the race to begin.  The pole sitter sets the pace.

They’re gonna go rippin’, better leave some space.

CHO)

BREAK

3.  It’s a feelin’ of freedom when the drivers cut loose.

Ain’t nothing like it, ‘ceppin’ maybe the truth.

And then somethin’ happens, it’s yellow again.

You’re waiting for a startup, but you don’t know when.

ALONE IN THE BLUE    ©  2005, Flyby Phil

  E                       G#m

1.  All alone in the blue,

                     A       B         E

What is a broken heart to do?
                     G#m                       F#m                  B

You said something mean, you didn’t mean to say.

E                                G#m              A                        B              E

And now the distant shore holds your true love and all love is for.

                 G#m                                   F#m                     B

Can you find your way back to the way things used to be?

                                      E         Am(bar)  E

Or will you remain at sea?

2. If you apologize

For the pain you brought those pretty eyes.

Will it turn love around, and bring her back home to stay?

But the waves rock the boat, and your song hits one sad note.

Is it just the fear a final tear might fall?

You could lose it all…

3.  Away in the night

There shines a harbor light.

Have you found the way to speak the words she needs?

And there on the shore is the only one that you adore,

And her arms are open wide to welcome you back home.

You’ll never be alone…

In the blue.

What is a broken heart to do?

Bring for the vision that only the pines and mountain tops know.

My love is like an arrow, shot straight into your heart.

When I am gone, it will never depart.

I’m over the hill, down in the valley, and deep in your heart.
